This original US Department of Commerce, EDA Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership Grant titled Centralina Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem Strategy Development project (the “Project”), provided a unique opportunity to do just that, inventory and assess the Region’s manufacturing ecosystem, and develop actionable strategies (an Implementation Plan) for ensuring that manufacturing remains a strong and globally-competitive component of the Region’s economy.

Our 2012 CEDS update process was also a part of the CONNECT regional framework to grow a robust and resilient region and will provide key components to the Greater Charlotte Bi-State 2011 HUD Sustainable Communities Grant.

NC Tomorrow Initiative

New in 2012 was our region's participation with the 15 sister COG regions across the state in an effort entitled "NC Tomorrow"- Building Communities for Tomorrows JobsThis initiative is part of the Statewide NC Tomorrow program that will integrate all 16 NC Council of Governments' plans into one uniform NC Strategy for Comprehensive Economic Development.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Update

  • This annual update of Centralina's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy measures the region’s progress over the past year as we work towards sustained economic prosperity through implementation of the strategies outlined in the original report, “No Boundaries.”

Advanced Manufacturing

  • With a planning grant from the Economic Development Administration and investments from equity partners, the CEDC has released a feasibility analysis for the development of Advanced Manufacturing Facilities in the Centralina region The feasibility study catalogues current manufacturing in the region, identifying opportunities in emerging technologies and advanced manufacturing, and establishing a strategy to implement these recommendations.
